Gilding Services

The art of gilding has been used since the time of the Ancient Egyptians. Gold leaf gilding is the method of adhering a very thin layer of 24 carat gold to a surface to highlight and adorn its appearance. Examples of gilding can be seen in museums, architectural adorations, stately homes, fine art, picture frames and ornaments.

Oil Gilding

Oil gilding is the process where a surface is coated in oil Gold size and gold leaf is draped over the surface with great care. This achieves a durable, high gloss gold finish. This process is able to be used for both interior and exterior purposes.

Water Gilding

This art is performed only on the finest of subjects where a flawless, high gloss gold finish is required. Water gilding also allows the gold leaf to be burnished which achieves an incredible high sheen to the gold leaf.

Water gilding is only applicable for internal works. It has a much finer finish than oil gilding and requires far greater skill and time involved hence it is only applied to the most luxurious of decorations.
